You don't have to get users entering connect strings if you don't want them to do so. Just include a line like the one below in the ORACLE.INI file of each client machine and the users will have to enter only their usernames and passwords:
LOCAL=<default connect string>
ex. LOCAL=X:myserver:mySID or LOCAL=mynet2connection

Do anybody have tried to use own logon screen by overriding the default
logon screen. Asking user to type in the connection string is a bit "urgy".
