oradocm and X-server probs

Running oradocm under Solaris 5.5 to display to a remote machine fails with the message

        Connection to Window System or Terminal type failed.

This happens under under the macintosh X-window packages MacX, XTen, and several NT X-window packages. We have Xkernel running on some old Sun3-60s and these get the same error. There is no problem displaying other X utilities (netscape, xterm, ...) on these servers.

We have found that changing the macintosh to 8-bit color allows oradocm to display under XTen and MacX, but this trick has no effect on the other machines. Also, there are no problems displaying to another machine that is running SunOS 4.1.4 or 5.5.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on here? We're stymied. This is the version of oradoc that comes with 7.3.2.
