Re: the best approach to migrate a database to new server

AIX to Linux... hmm, that give you an endian problem, can't recall. rman may deal with that for you anyway.

Irman duplicate to standby to 11g on Linux, upgrade the database home on Linux, start log apply on Linux. switchover, shutdown AIX, upgrade database home on AIX (in case you need to switch back).

Needs testing, devil's in the details of platform->platform migration. Potentially very little downtime if you can get it to work.
