Before setting max_string_size to extended, check whether any of your indexes rely on mdsys.sdo_geometry.

Before setting max_string_size to extended, check whether any of your indexes rely on mdsys.sdo_geometry.
If they so, I recommend leaving the old setting in place otherwise all your indexes will be invalidated and impossible to rebuild due to max key size extended.
I suspect this may hold true with some other funstion-based indexes depending on the function used.
Oracle obliquely warns about this but then says that in the future the default setting will be set to extended. In one case here one developer requested the new setting but it is possible it could affect apps which were designed for 11g or earlier.
