Changing Directory Path, inventory location and oracle_base

I have been doing some experimenting with renaming an oracle directory structure. The current oracle_base (for GI) is
/u01/app/grid/12.2.0/grid_base and the inventory location is
/u01/app/grid/12.2.0/oraInventory. I want to move both of those to
/u01/app/grid/18.3.0.... Does anyone know how to change the oracle base
and inventory location? Can I change the inventory location just by updating /etc/oraInst.loc?
