There is also a much newer example of the "Total Recall" option in 11G which was quietly included into 12c. It is sort of a neat thing, but the database archiving is usually done to a DW type database through some kind of ETL, rather than keeping it in the same database. It looks like the feature will get included into the next release only if nobody wants to buy it. Partitioning is available since Oracle 8i and is still a separate option.
