Now that you say that (and I've had the drive home to think about it), I do this every quarter for my restore testing. So yes, what I had stated is the way it works.

I'm not sure what a "crosscheck backup" would do, since the RMAN files do reside on disk, but I did one anyway. A "crosscheck archivelog all" would only look at the archive logs that haven't been backed up yet. In either case, no change as a "report obsolete" still shows no archive log backups as obsolete.
