Some things to remember about SQLcl:

+ it’s supported via MOS

+ it ships with Oracle db installs now

+ also ships with SQLDev

+ requires at least a Java 8 JRE

Some things to remember about its history command

+ on by default

+ history items persist between sessions

+ limit is 100 statements, but can be adjusted higher

+ supports blacklisting of commands to be stored in history, like a CONNECT

+ also includes anon blocks, not just statements

17.4 just came out 2 weeks ago. Let me know if you have any questions.

This is new to me (12.2 sqlplus history) and, while it’s a definite improvement over not having any history in sqlplus, it seems a bit clunky command-wise to me.

In addition to what others have mentioned, it might be a good time to consider this:  http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sqlcl/overview/index.html

Hi Jeffrey,

If you download the 12.2 client you can take advantage of the new history functionality:

I am coming from a Windows environment in which SQL plus does have a command line history. In Linux, running SQL Plus, an up arrow key returns garbled characters. Is there a way to activate the command line history for Linux servers running SQL Plus?
