That's fine for the database, but how do we decouple the cluster. The end result for us would be a single node,  single instance with Oracle Restart.

Then you won't need any Data Guard shenanigans or anything like that. Set cluster_database and other RAC-specific parameters to false or remove them, shut down, startup, drop excess redo threads.  Done.
Of course you have to check on any specific service configurations to make sure everyone can still connect. Also be aware of applications not properly configured (e.g. using host:port:SID) Stefan

Hi Seth, Sorry forgot to say this new single instance will be on the same server as one of the RAC databases. We are trying to reduce our RAC footprint hence the reason going to a single instance.  Thanks

 Zabair,
If you are moving from a RAC cluster to another server, the easiest way to do this is to create a new instance on your single instance server and restore a backup from the RAC database. You can reuse the control file or create a new one; the latter probably being the better option so you don't have to delete a bunch of extra online redo logs and remap the data file locations. You will have at least one extra undo tablespace but those can simply be dropped after the restore is complete.

Good point – I happened to be repurposing one of the nodes to run the single instance, but it’s not technically necessary. -T. J. From: Andrew Kerber [mailto:andrew.kerber_at_gmail. com] Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2017 10:59 AM To: TJ Kiernan
