I've run Oracle on vmware at a number of clients - if you pay attention to the setup and configuration it runs quite well. There may be potential licensing issues, so you should make sure your management understands the costs as well as the benefits. A good book on the nuts and bolts from a vmware perspective is "Virtualizing Oracle Databases on vSphere" . Amazon it.
