(Hope I'm responding right, it has been such a long time)

Ensure that have a very good backup of everything, "just in case"!

I had just a RMAN backup on 5/2/2017, and went to upgrade Apex to the newest version on my development server. That failed with the dreaded ORA-600 errors, and I was unable to go go backwards, and support didn't have me revert to the last backup, but instead kept me trying different things to get past it.

Finally, after week, support said there was nothing they could do until I either upgraded to the newest version of 12.1.xxxx or for me to upgrade to the newest version of 12.2.xxxx. So I opted for the 12.2.xxx upgrade, and that failed as well. Of course by then my RMAN backups had cycled out, so I had no viable backups left.

Here it is now almost 4 months later and I have received one patch, which seemed to fix some of the ORA-600 errors, but I still have a few remaining, and a whole bunch of new errors I don't remember seeing before (but perhaps that was because they were hidden amongst all of the ORA-600 errors).

This is on a Windows 2012 server, so if you are on a different platform, perhaps you'll be okay. But for me in my case, my "Unbreakable Oracle" has been broken for (2 days short of) 4 months. And as a disclaimer, I have been doing DBA and programming work on Oracle since 1990, so I'm not a simple newbie at this. :)

This link/document seems mainly to be in upgrading once you are already up to version 12 and using the multi-tenant architecture, but it is a really good article. https://community.oracle.com/docs/DOC-995765

Good luck!
