I will be interested in what others say about this as well. I have always practiced setting my controlfile_record_keep_time longer than my retention. While we use a recovery catalog for centralizing backup data, I also like to keep metadata in my controlfile. Of course, this may cause some controlfile growth but it has to be pretty minimal. If I ever "lost" my recovery catalog, I would want all the information I need going back past my recovery window stored in the controlfile as well.

Subject: RMAN recovery window and control_file_record_keep_time

Recently we changed our backup policy with RECOVERY WINDOW OF 3 DAYS. The control_file_record_keep_time still remains at 7. Is this something we need to be concerned about? No issues but I wanted to see if we have a potential of some sort of risk down the road.

And I am happy to finally be able to post on the list. So this is my introduction :)
