Many years ago I worked for a hardware vendor. There was always a struggle between the hardware folks who wanted our software to sell the hardware and we software folks who wanted to be able to sell our software to anyone.

Many years ago I worked for a hardware vendor. There was always a struggle between the hardware folks who wanted our software to sell the hardware and we software folks who wanted to be able to sell our software to anyone.
In this case it seems to me that Microsoft feels their future is in the cloud, not in selling Windows. But there are a lot of customers with large SQL Server databases that want to move them to the cloud.
