By using the phrase "core relational database capabilities", Microsoft has signaled that it will be a subset of functionality. There are already many choices in the Linux space covering a broad spectrum of cost and capabilities including Oracle, DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Informix, Sybase, and Ingres. Linux is foreign to SQL Server developers. Conversely, SQL Server is foreign to Linux developers. For those three reasons, I don't see SQL Server gaining a lot of traction in the Linux space. Iggy
