This can be done on RedHat as well, should you go that route. Doing so requires a bit of work, but makes subsequent installs easier.

Assuming that ASMLib is used.

And BTW, if you go to a non-Oracle version of Linux that is based on RedHat 6.x+, be sure to disable transparent huge pages.
