Ahh.. the PSU readme has the kind of directions I was looking for. Thanks! I will make note of the opatch auto command for another time, but I'll go with the PSU this time.

Thanks very much!!
And thanks to all who replied!

Chris, I took a look at the README file - and not trying to second guess you here  - but since you mention that you need to apply this Patch to the GRID (GI/CRS) Home also - have you looked at the possibility of applying Patch 16742216 - GRID INFRASTRUCTURE PATCH SET UPDATE 11.2.0.3.7 (INCLUDES DB PSU 11.2.0.3.7)  - this is applicable using "opatch auto" - and purports to contain all the fixes included in the SPU 16742095  My understanding is that for an SPU - if you had to go w/ it - the norm would be to use "opatch auto" - for reference - OPatch Auto Example to Apply a GI PSU (includes Database PSU) - from Doc ID 1339140.1 For using "opatch napply" - the suggestion would be to use "all_nodes" or the "-m" flag to the "apply" command - this is discussed in Doc ID 1486109.1 Lastly - if you wish to apply manually - this doc - Readme - Patch Installation and Deinstallation For 11.2.0.3.x GI PSU (Doc ID 1494646.1) - has some information on manual application but you will once again observe that "auto" is recommended. There is an "all_nodes" option that may be passed to "napply" - but I have not used that - perhaps something to investigate with the "-report" option. Hope this helps...

I'm supposed to apply the patch to GRID as well as the database home, so I know the commands to stop/start all components, but I was expecting to see the details in one of the documents, particularly to specify what flags to use for the opatch apply in order to be sure I'm running it as a rolling patch.  Doesn't look like these are included in the readme files..

Hi Rajesh,
The readme just says  to use the OPatch rolling installation method and refers me to the same document 244241.1 you mentioned. That document explains the concept of what happens when using the rolling patch method, but it doesn't give any commands.

The patch I need to apply is an old CPU patch p16742095_112030_Linux-x86-64.zip. (Unfortunately I have to use this old one because there was an oops with the CPUs and one of the bugs fixed in this patch was not included in the subsequent CPUs.)

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!Thanks.

Chris, What CPU are you trying to apply ? In a RAC installation - I'd "guess" that the preferred choice as defined by the README would be to use "opatch auto"  These documents might help...
Rolling Patch - OPatch Support for RAC (Doc ID 244241.1) FAQ: OPatch/Patch Questions/Issues for Oracle Clusterware (Grid Infrastructure or CRS) and RAC Environments (Doc ID 1339140.1)

Hello All,
Please excuse this newbee question.I'm applying a rolling opatch (CPU) to an 11.2.0.3 RAC installation on linux, and none of the documents seem to point me to the instructions/commands on how to execute a rolling patch with opatch. They are not included in the readme, nor in the documents referenced in the readme. Where can I find the actual commands to run to execute an opatch rolling patch? Thanks!
