I couldn't agree more. Don't install what you don't need - not only does that greatly increase security, but also overall stability. I can't recount all the issues I've ran into when upgrading some "DBCA-next-next-next" type databases that had like a dozen DD components. On top of that, upgrades also take forever, and that, in turn translates directly to more downtime, and thus more cost ( depending on the environment)

And regarding the JVM - check how many objects that thing loads into your database; that translates to more potential exploitable bugs.
