George,

I'm not sure which white paper you're looking for, but you might try a Google search, something like this: asm site:oracle.com filetype:pdf

Perhaps the paper you're looking for will be in the list...?

Hi Seth

Great paper, but not the original one I was thinking about, as mentioned, it came out of Oracle, pretty sure it was by either Ara or Nitin at the time. Should be dated around 2006'ish

George,

You might be referring to Alex Gorbachev's presentation on the subject in 2010. http://gavinsoorma.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/implement_ASM_successfully.pdf

I remember when ASM just made it's appearance there was a paper available that explained how ASM distributes blocks when configured in normal or high, thinks like primary block owner and 8 potential partners for each asm disk.

Any chance anyone has this lying around, or have an updated version taking Exadata Storage servers into consideration.

My curious side at work.

Yours Sincerely
