Are both rdbms at 11.2?
Does a 10g Home exist on server2? If yes, could the create control file command been issued with the wrong Oracle Home set?

Oracle 11.2
Redhat linux Enterprise 4

Shutdown database on server 1
copy it to server 2 and update as a standby of server 1 then activate it.
create standby copy of control file and copy it to server 1 try and start as standby database on server says its a version 10.2 db so control file no good!
