Wolfgang asked exactly the same question. I did actually reply to this earlier, but I sent two messages to oracle-l at once and got a message about over-quoting on one, from which I couldn't actually identify the message that was over-quoted, so I assume it must have been this one. If not, I apologize for resending the message.
My reply to Wolfgang was something along the lines of this (can't find the damn thing now so retyping it from memory):

Yes, EM Express does require a Diagnostics Pack license to use the Performance screens. Having said that, the original poster also mentioned they had Spotlight. I have a vague recollection that Spotlight also uses a Diag Pack license. I know one of the non-Oracle tools out there does that, and I think that was Spotlight."
Of course, I don't know the ins and outs of Spotlight so I might be wrong on that, so please do double check.
In any case, you are correct, it does need a license and I should have made that point earlier.

Hi Pete,
Don't you need the Diagnostics pack for for the Performance screens in EM Express? And as I'm sure you know many sites aren't licensed to use the Diagnostics pack.

What is this concept of being "too dependent upon Grid Control"? I don't understand. ;)
Seriously, while I know it's too early for most folks, have a look at the Performance screens in EM Express. All you gotta do is migrate all your databases to DB12c, and I just KNOW you're planning that already! :)

I have come to the realization I've become a little too dependent upon Grid Control for giving me a "quick overview" of system performance. Those colorful graphs are like DBA crack ;) So let's say Grid is down or I'm in an environment where Grid is not available. I'm pretty good with SQL but I still like that overview that Grid gives me where I can quickly identify "blips" related to performance.
I'm curious what tools/scripts you guys have in your toolboxes to give you a quick overview when your favorite tool is unavailable. I have several tools in my toolbox as well, but nothing quite as good as Grid when it comes to giving me that "big picture" view to quickly see issues that are impacting users.
I do have Spotlight available but we haven't configured it and I'm not entirely sure I want to go that route as it adds objects to the database. I have Toad as well but I'm really thinking along the lines of SQL scripts would be handy.
Thoughts?
