My shutdown -r on Linux Redhat Oracle 11g failed because a lock fire "blah\blah\ior" was missing! I thought it rang a bell and after googling found this
*IOR* (Initiate *ORacle*) was an *Oracle* 5 DBA utility for starting and stopping databases. *IOR* was later replaced with SQL*DBA in *Oracle* 6, Server *...*

Bit Legacy using a file name from version 5 !

I also remember ufi !
