Taking advantage of SSD Capabilities when Smart Flash Cache isn't an option?

I'm trying to think of a way we could leverage SSD technology on RedHat on local server nodes in a safe, and controlled manner (if at all). The only thing I can think of currently is to create a shared storage area of SSDs between the nodes and use that for temporary tablespaces and I'm not sure that is safe nor controlled and kind of sounds like a hack. The technology side of my brain is intrigued by the idea however.

Any thoughts on the matter from the list? What other ways could the DB take advantage on local SSD storage that I'm not thinking of?
