I often describe DBHome as the 'Basic Unit of Service Level Agreement'.

Same initial release, but different patch cycle, or different maintenance cycle - need a new HOME. That new HOME might be on a new server, or the same server.

Different initial release and/or patch level - need a new HOME.

Different features required, but at the same initial release, and don't want to install the s/w for the features - need a new HOME. (This is the one that catches the ee/se/se1/pe/xe home)
