Probably not the answer, but you may have an extra slash in your oratab entry.
Your blog entry shows:

orcl11g:/opt/oracle/product/11.2.0.3/db_1/:N

Think it should be:

orcl11g:/opt/oracle/product/11.2.0.3/db_1:N
