You can convert endians and use transportable tablespace sets. This limits downtime to copy time. I have done this with a 11g R2 10TB database in a few hours. You generate the TTS set, copy over and use RMAN to convert the endians, then you plug it into the prepared target database.

The endian difference is not compatible for Transportable Databases; it is compatible for TTS.

For TTS, doesnt the endianness of the platforms come into account? Linux is Little endian and Solaris is big endian. I thought they would not be compatible for TTS.
