You aren't trying to unzip on an NFS-mounted file-system on RH Linux by any chance, are you?

This sort of thing nailed me (i.e.
"https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227225") years ago and the solution was to perform the unzip in a locally-mounted file-system then move everything back to the NFS-mount afterwards.

If not, then please never mind... :-)
