Thanks for that. My problem was having to have, as I thought, the tns alias for the auxiliary database the same as it's actual db_name. Last time I did one of these clones, it barfed at the "duplicate ... to alias ...", because, as it told me, the alias name didn't match the db_name name.

I therefore thought that the alias for the auxiliary database, defined on the target server's tnsnames, had to be the same as the sid for the auxiliary.

However, I did it yesterday and it accepted it quite happily this time. Sometimes I really hate RMAN/Oracle!

It's still running, copying the files over, so I expect it to barf at the "switch" command, like my last one did, because I apparently have a file from a previous incarnation. I have an SR open on that one!
