Your assumption being that I'm working in VMs? Our organization is small enough and only has a handful of servers such that moving us to VM would be cost prohibitive.

In this day and age of easy VMs everywhere, I hardly see the point of running two distinct database products in the same box/vm. Quite frankly, it's just inviting problems when it is dirt easy to make sure there can't be any. Yeah, sure: you can run everything in the same laptop, without trouble. For testing. Would you also run your production services in laptops? No? Good!
