Which exadata hardware and size do you have? For example X2-2 1/4 rack?

What software version and db versions are you running? Run imageinfo on your storage cells. There might be some enhancements to help with what you are describing depending on what version you are at.

As for hardware upgrades, you can't swap out CPUs but you can buy storage expansion racks to add more processing capacity or replace the storage cells you have with ones with higher CPU capacity (depending on you hardware version).
