From direct experience working with about 3/4 of the major banks in the US, they all use Oracle to one degree or another, and at most of them, Oracle is a primary database platform.

That being said, they have all kinds of other databases too, from MySQL to DB2 to NoSQL data stores, to Netezza and Greenplum datawarehouses, etc.
