OID registration woes

Trying to configure the OID for an FM 11g PFRD (Portal, Forms, Reports, Discoverer) installation, ran into a problem: when I query the repository database, I see: select comp_id,version from app_registry where comp_id = 'OID' or comp_id = 'SSO';
COMP_ID                        VERSION
------------------------------ ------------------------------
SSO                            10.1.4.0.1

1 row selected.

But no OID to be found.

Any idea how I may configure the OID manually to use the repository database? Or do I need to worry about this at all?

Although FM11g lists oid1 as listening on both the ldap and ldaps ports, the OSSO repCA utility can't find it.

The documentation and technotes on MOS are so convoluted I haven't found them very useful.

This is on AIX, not linux... things which worked for you on linux may not work on AIX.
