Oracle Replication previous to Oracle 7?

I'm trying to find out if replication existed in Oracle in any form in versions previous to Oracle 7? Were snapshots introduced in 7, or were they available in earlier versions? I have worked with 6, but I honestly don't recall if there were snapshots there or not? Thanks!
