To add to Robert's correct response.

It maybe however that you are not clear on what targets you have in a RAC environment. A 2 node RAC database would consist essentially of 3 distinct targets. One for the cluster database (target type rac_database IIRC ) and one each for the 2 instances ( target type oracle_database IIRC) - in a clustered environment some metrics get measured at the cluster level and some at the instance level (by and large the split is what you'd expect). A monitoring template is useful for applying metrics from one target to others of the same type. In your circumstance I can't see what you'd gain from creating a template based (presumably) on several instances, to apply to other instances in the same cluster - that is I don't see why 2 or more instances would be more representative than 1 instance.
