Done this once before in 9i and it was not bad at all.

Golden Gate is a replication technology, not a distributed query technology, you'd want linked servers (in MSSQL) or database gateways (in Oracle) to do joins across different RDBMS instances on different platforms. This is , generally, rather slow.
