Hello Freek,

MOS finally got back to me with the answer on the documentation problem we found. Quick recap:

Data Recovery Advisor (DRA) doesn't support RAC databases, but the 11gR2 documentation says we should modify our ADR structure in order to use DRA with RAC.

Just why is one documentation [1] saying we should configure ADR on shared storage with RAC so that we can use DRA while the other [2] says DRA is not supported with RAC is beyond me!

I'll ask Oracle support and see what they think?

Short answer: there is a bug in the documentation.

Long answer:

Hello David,

I got feedback and clearification from our Product Management regarding the mismatch in the Oracle Documentation.

the Answer is:

-> DRA - Data Recovery Advisor - is "NOT" supported for RAC!

So this Documentation is 'wrong'.

Oracle Database Administrator's Guide
11g Release 2 (11.2)
Part Number E17120-06

ADR in an Oracle Real Application Clusters Environment

o In an Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) environment, each node can have ADR base on its own local storage,   or ADR base can be set to a location on shared storage. The following are the advantages of the shared storage approach:   You can use ADRCI to view aggregated diagnostic data from all instances on a single report.

!The following is WRONG!
~~~
o You can use the Data Recovery Advisor to help diagnose and repair corrupted data blocks, corrupted or missing files,   and other data failures. (For Oracle RAC, the Data Recovery Advisor requires shared storage.)
~~~

This Part with: "DRA - Data Recovery Advisor" - is 'Wrong' in "Oracle Database Administrator's Guide"
and I entered a Documentation Bug:11787630 to get this removed/corrected in the Documentation

Documentation Bug:

Bug 11787630 - DRA - DATA RECOVERY ADVISOR - IS "NOT" SUPPORTED FOR RAC!

I hope this can help clarify the issue.

Cheers,
