Wallets (Transparent Database Encryption) is available in 10g. It can be a pain to set up, and do not use it unless you are at 10.2.0.4 or higher. However it only encrypts the columns that you specify, and there are performance limitations. A VPN would be a good way to go. SSH has configurable encryption methods as well.

Subject: DataGuard encryption

Does anyone have any suggestions for encrypting data going to a 10g or 11g standby database if you don't have the Advanced Security Option?

I've read Metalink Documents 749947.1 and 1143443.1. Oracle Wallets sound promising, but it also looks like that's only available for 11g.

Any suggestions?
