Thanks Mark.

I saw the Metalink note 1131163.1; that's how I found out that section 28 is RMAN STATUS... Other than that I couldn't find much info on what exactly does it mean by RMAN STATUS...

One thing I forgot to mention in my earlier email that I am using catalog for RMAN. We get the list of handles from the catalog based on the retention policy and delete (change backuppiece delete) those backuppieces. Nonetheless, I have tried both the delete obsolete and crosscheck-delete-expired, but the error/warning is still there...

I don't mind the warning message so much, but it is probably causing an intermittent "Resync got ORA-235" during the backups... since the control file is being written at the time of the auto Resync during the backups.

I don't think the error is because of the size of the control file, it has reached the max number of records allowed. The block size is 8k, the current size of the ctrl file is ~23m and there is plenty of space left on the file systems.

I think you need to run an rman delete obsolete operation

The following support notes might be of interest

Subject: Controlfile Section 28 - denied expansion of controlfile

Hey Guys,

Need some help here. Getting this error in the alert log...

kccrsz: denied expansion of controlfile section 28 by 53619 record(s)

the number of records is already at maximum value (65535)

I searched online and metalink... the only info I could find was the section 28 is RMAN STATUS. Is there a way to clear out/limit the number of records for RMAN STATUS in the controlfile? What exactly does it store in these records?

I can't set the control_file_record_keep_time (currently set to 45) to 0 since I have my RMAN retention set to 45 days.

Oracle 10.1.0.5 on AIX 4.3

RMAN level 0 backups and Arc backups scripted and scheduled.
