Hopefully I did not miss this in the flurry of replies - but shouldn't the real question be "why use RAC" rather than "Why not use RAC?" There are tons of complexities involved in a RAC environment which have been echoed in many notes. The other thing to keep in mind is that once you purchase the software and maintenance for RAC, you can not shelf it. You are stuck with it the rest of your life...so make sure you are 100% sure before you leap...
