HUMM, Yes this thread is a few days old, sometimes takes me a while to read them, but I'm interested in that other people are using for standby solutions with Standard edition. I've read the DBVISIT web site as well as RDC's. Don't know where these people get their info as quite a bit of it is dead wrong to start with, obviously pointing one to believe that their better (AH, another marketing ploy).

Yes you are right there is no DataGuard in SE and there is a Standby Database and it can you used with your own script or with ex. DBVisit software (www.dbvisit.com)

From license point of view storage replication is better but I see one
weak point of that configuration - in case of redo log corruption on
primary this same
corruption will be transferred to standby and in worst case you will
be not able to open standby at all
(maybe with _allow_resetlogs_corruption=true but this not a solution).
I have similar situation once with EMC and SRDF replication and we
have to restore DB from backup.
