How long ago was 11G R2 released?

We're trying to decide whether update our 9i databases to 11G R1 or R2. We're also installing on a Red Hat server I think version 5.3 64 bit.

I saw a trend a few days ago regarding the upgrade to R2 in which the main concern was how different R2 is from previous versions? If the release was in the last quarter I think I may go with R1 and wait a while.
