Morning list,

I am currently checking with my Oracle representative for the correct situation, however, as I know it at the moment:

  • If you buy any oracle product, you get a support id.
  • You can use that support id to log support calls against the product you have purchased a license and maintenance for, even if you never download the software itself.
  • The support id allows you to look up bugs etc in any Oracle product on MOS.
  • You *may* be able to download patches using your support id - but I assume (because I don't know) that you may be restricted to patches for your product.

A fellow DBA recently purchased a single user perpetual license for the Oracle Access Manager (I think) for approximately £5 GBP. He received a support id and is happily using MOS on the back of that support id.

However, since then, Oracle's shop has increased the minimum quantity required to 5,000 - so the price is some a lot higher than £5.

I'll post back any information I get from Oracle.

Cheers,
Norman.
