Wonder if it is similar to the description of the bug in: http://40hz.org/Pages/Newton%20Year%202010%20Problem, an overflow problem.

Interesting.  

Googling for it I can't seem to find a plausible explanation.  

There is lots of wrangling on Slashdot as to whether it has something

to do with 0x10 being 16 in binary and 10 in BCD.

Could it be that someone is storing the year in 2 digits?  

You would think that lesson had been learned.
