Is it possible that you're writing to RAID 5 on the target and that's slowing it down compared to faster disks where you're writing the backups? It's been a while since I tested it, but if I recall correctly, there was more overhead for decompression during the restore than for compression during the backup. That was years ago that I tested it though so I'm not too sure, but it might be worth trying without compression to see how that affects your times. Also, how does the load compare on the two servers - is there a higher level of concurrent activity on the target server during the duplicate?
