My notes say to set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 for RH 4 X86-64.If not set, the symptoms you describe occur.

No help I know, but it does confirm that you set it properly for previous linux versions.

There is no mention (that I could find) on puschitz.com, so it may just be that 9i cannot be installed on AS 5.
