Monitoring free disk space with Oracle

I am looking for a possibility to check my OS free space with (out of) the database 9i/10g/11g.

Okay, one may call any OS command frequently / on behalf of a job / with Java in the DB, and read the result file as external table, whatever. But preferably, there would be a UTL_MAGIC package or any other approach that's usable with less effort.
If the approach works for Linux or AIX only, it would do for me.
