Re: database decommission checklist

I fully agree with the previous two postings of: 1) making a full backup to disk and to tape 2) shutdown the database but leave everything intact for a few months until you, as the DBA, are fully convinced that this database is absolutely not needed anymore

And I may add the following:

Use $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbca to delete the database in question. This will ensure that all references to this database are gone from the system just in case you do need to create another database in the future and happen to choose the same SID for it - you know it will happen.
