If you want someone else here to understand the problem better, I suggest you create a reproducible test case that can be posted here on the list.
You might have to use the real data, just using the columns in question, and then scramble the data.
In the process of doing that, you just may discover the problem.
If not, others can have a go at it with a reproducible test case.
