Automatic datafile creation with conditions?

We'd like to automatically add datafiles as tablespaces near full, however we would only like to add a single datafile per tablespace; if more space is required after that, we want to be notified and manually add them.

Has anyone set something like this up? Automating the addition of datafiles seems rather trivial (cron or OEM), it's the 'IF' condition and what the best tool would be to accomplish this that is a challenge. We're on 10gR2/Solaris 64 if that's relevant.
