DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT is only valid for standby datafile, not standby controlfile. But you have answer the question in your original post. ie. create the control for standby on production and copy across to standby database.

DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT: Syntax:

DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT: = 'oldstring1', 'newstring1', 'oldstring2', 'newstring2', ...

Specify the location of the primary database datafiles followed by the standby location of the datafiles. It will convert datafile name of primary database to datafile name of the standby datafile. If the primary and standby database are on the same system or if the directory structure of primary and standby database is different then this parameter is required.

Option 2.
Rename the database on the standby while it is in MOUNT mode.

That's a good question.... I've never had to do that before. All my standby db's were in the same format as my prod. I did a quick check on google, but couldn't find anything relevant... Sorry!

Thanks - That only works if the files are in the same place on the primary database. What if the layout if different.?
