Subject: Using "SOME" in a subselect

I came across some code today that has the following:

SELECT
.

.

.

WHERE
.

.

.

  AND p.refreshTimeStamp = SOME

        (SELECT
                MAX(pa.refreshTimeStamp)
         FROM pymt pa
         WHERE compid = '12345666'

Can anyone tell me what the " = SOME" portion of the code does? I've done some research, but can't find anything so far.
